I'm Kicking for Kids!
A proud career backman with the knees of an 80-year-old, I’ve spent most of my footy days stopping goals rather than kicking them. My playing style was best described as "gritty" (or "slow," depending on who you ask), and I’ve always been fuelled by Tasmania’s finest carbohydrate-based refreshments. While my knees creak at the thought of this 24-hour challenge, my love for a good cause outweighs my better judgment. Kicking snags might not be my forte, but having a laugh and raising funds for Ronald McDonald House certainly is. Bring on the sideline banter—I'll need it!My Updates
From Backline General to 24-Hour Snag-Kicking Machine
Monday 3rd FebFor years, I made a career out of stopping goals, not kicking them. A true backman, my game was built on grit, determination, and a voice to tell those around me just what to do (as my body wouldnt). My knees? Let’s just say they’ve seen better days.
But for 24 hours straight, I’ll be lacing up, pushing through the pain, and kicking snags non-stop to raise money for Ronald McDonald House. And I won’t be doing it alone—kicking them with the GOAT, Brad Cox-Goodyer, as my goal-kicking wingman for a full day! It’s a battle of endurance, precision, and sheer stubbornness—because while my body might disagree, my heart is all in for this incredible cause.
Why 24 Hours of Goal Kicking?
Ronald McDonald House provides vital support to families with seriously ill children, giving them a place to stay close to their loved ones during difficult times. Every goal I kick (and believe me, there will be many) is about raising awareness, rallying support, and making a difference. If it means sacrificing my knees for a good cause, then so be it!
The Challenge Ahead
Kicking goals for a full day isn’t exactly in my comfort zone. I’ve spent most of my footy life keeping opposition forwards honest, not trying to slot them through the big sticks myself. But this challenge is about pushing limits, embracing the madness, and proving that backmen can actually kick—at least for charity.
Of course, I won’t be doing it alone. I’ll have support from an elite team of volunteers, hecklers, and hydration experts keeping me upright through the night. Whether it’s goal tallying, passing me a water bottle, or simply questioning my life choices at 3 AM, every bit of help counts.
