Our story

Tuesday 6th Aug
Our little Lucy had some distress during labour and came out pretty unhappy. She needed breathing support from birth and was taken straight to our special care nursery and put on CPAP. She then developed pulmonary hypotension (I still don’t really understand but it’s not good!) and had breathed in her own poo during labour (meconium aspiration) and wasn’t improving so she was intubated and flown to the Royal women’s NICU via chopper a few hours after birth. 

What made an otherwise stressful time so much easier was getting a room at Ronald McDonald house. They were incredible, and our room had a welcome pack with so many snacks, drinks and toiletries so that if we didn’t have time to pack things we would have been ok. 
They have fridges and freezers full of food and activities for kids, even schooling if need be. Shuttle buses drop off and pick up from the hospital too, so you wouldn’t even need a car. 

We are so grateful we only needed to spend a few nights there but got talking to many families who had been there for months (and have an amazing friend who has spent a long time there herself). 

Given how lucky our girl is to have all of her big brother and sisters toys to play with (aka steal) we have decided that we would love to show our gratitude by asking for donations to rmhc instead of presents, and appreciate all our your generosity in helping up achieve our goal of $1000.
