I’m fundraising to support the families of sick kids
In April 2024, my wife was 7 months pregnant with our Son when she experienced a maternal emergency. The Royal Hobart Hospital is the only hospital in Tasmania that offers care to premature babies born earlier than 32 weeks. Due to this, my wife was airlifted to the hospital where we remained for a further 3 weeks to ensure care was delivered to herself and our Son.
During this time, we were fortunate enough to be offered accommodation at the Ronald McDonald House, where I stayed while my wife was cared for in the immediate circumstances. Then, after this, my wife was able to join me. We continued to stay in the housing facility in Hobart as outpatients until we were cleared by the hospital to return home.
Being displaced from our home was a daunting and unexpected experience. We had to relocate ourselves at a moment's notice. Emotionally and financially, this was a challenging and scaring time for us.
Thankfully, the staff and accommodation at Ronald McDonald House in Hobart offered us a safe space to spend these three weeks. It is close to the hospital, and the staff and volunteers provided us with support, food, cleaning, and a space to unwind. If it wasn't for the great organization, we would have endured substantial hardships while navigating a difficult medical emergency.
That’s why I’m being active by running a half-marathon and raising funds to support the families relying on Ronald McDonald House Charities Victoria & Tasmania. For those who know me personally, I am not built for running, which will be a big achievement!
This is just our story, but along our journey, we witnessed countless other families in similar circumstances being supported by the charity. By staying here, we were able to be together outside the hospital environment. I’m committed to raising vital funds to ensure families have access to the comfort, care, and support they need during the toughest times.
Please donate today so families can stay together when they need it most and focus on what’s most important. My goal is to raise enough to fund a family to stay for the same 3-week timeframe that we did.
